The Department of Higher Education and Training invites South African unemployed Graduates who are between the ages of 18 – 35 years to apply for the 2025 Internship Programme.

Successful candidates will receive a monthly allowance/stipend but will be responsible for their own accommodation, transport, and meals. Most internships are for a 12 month period and in some instances, candidates may be offered a permanent position, but it is not guaranteed.
Department of Higher Education Internships Requirements
If you would like to apply for an internship with any of the Government Departments the following requirements will have to be met. Depending on the Department, there may be additional requirements.

- Candidates must be a South African citizen and between the ages of 18 & 35

- Candidates must live in South Africa and hold a valid ID document

- Candidates must be unemployed and have not previously been part of a Government internship program

- Candidates must be fluent in English (Speak, Read & Write)

- Candidates must not hold a criminal record

- Candidates must have a degree or qualification in the field that they are applying for
- Candidates must submit a curriculum vitae with contactable references
Candidates are also urged to submit a covering letter which includes their interests, hobbies, extra activities and motivation for the application. Candidates with a disability are also urged to apply.

The completed application with all relevant documentation can then be delivered to the Department of Higher Education via post or hand. Candidates are reminded to please ensure the reference number for the position applying for is clearly marked on the application. All documentation must be certified and attached to the application. The application must be completed in full and all contact details up-to-date.
Department of Higher Education Internships Closing Date
Closing dates differ slightly each year but usually, applications open the beginning of the year. Only those candidates selected who make the shortlist will be contacted. Candidates who have applied but have not had any correspondence within three months after the closing date can assume their application was unsuccessful. Applications that are missing documentation, incomplete or late will not be taken into consideration. Candidates must also ensure that all contact detail is up-to-date and working to be contacted if selected.
